The Cowl Neck

As I bebopped from store to store this autumn, I have noticed one distinct trend emerging: the cowl neck. Whether in blouse, t-shirt, or sweater form, these tops are filling the racks. The neck line is more scarf life, merging a drape neck with a turtleneck. Fascinated with the new trend, I purchased one. What I like about the cowl neck, is that is elongates the neck line. Unlike the turtleneck, which has the unfortunate tendency to make me look like a floating head. It is also a dressier style, whether you're wearing denim or not. It is a great day to date look. The only problem I have encountered is the drape. Unlike other sweater tops, it is very loose around the neck line. Beware when you bend down to pick something up! You will reveal all. The hand to neck line measure is needed here. Granted, the thicker the fabric the more support in the cowl, however, you still need to be aware of the drape in the neck line. Some, like the one I'm wearing, are light weight enough to layer a 3/4 sleeve layering tee underneath to prevent unwanted "peek-a-boos."
Regardless of fabric weight, I would highly recommend layering a higher neck lined tee underneath the cowl neck top. You will still get the elongated neck line look without compromising modesty. Of all the new Autumn and Winter trends, this is one that I am quite pleased with.

Here's how I wear my cowl neck sweater:

1. On it's own.

2. With a cardigan.

3. With a cropped jacket.
