L is for Layers

Layers are an essential know how in fashion. Layers add depth to an outfit, they maintain modesty, and they add warmth. However, it can be tricky to add layers without making your outfit (or you) look bulky.
Honestly, this concept used to trip me up, especially during winter and summer. How on earth does one add layers without adding bulk (thank you winter)? And how does one add layers without over heating in summer?
It’s simple really. It’s all about the fabric. The fabric you choose will determine how many layers you will need.
Let’s take by the polar opposite seasons: Winter and Summer.

Winter:
You have many options when it comes to layers in winter.
1.Keep your layers to a minimum. You can achieve this by paying attention to the quality and the weight of the fabric you are wearing. Tweeds and light weight wool will need fewer layers and will require lighter layers.

2.The rule of opposites. This simply means that if you are going to wear a bulky fabric, like a chunky knit sweater, don’t pair it with an equally weighty fabric, or with a cut of clothing that is over sized. This will only make you look oversized. To balance the look and the layers, minimize your layers and the cohesive pieces of your outfit.

3.Invest in quality outwear that both fits and flatters your figure in a good quality wool. This will allow you to wear lighter layers in a mid weight cotton.

Summer:
Summer has a tendency to pose a problem where modesty is concerned, but never fear, there are ways to dress and layer your clothing to maintain your modesty.

1.Light layers in breathable fabrics. When your layers are in a breathable or natural fabric, you can wear fewer layers without running the risk of overheating.

2.A skirt extender. Skirt extenders are an amazing “invention” that allow you to add extra length and femininity to your dresses without compromise.
