How to Style a Suede Skirt

One of the hot trends this winter is suede. Suede is a luxurious, and reasonably affordable alternative to leather. While, real suede tends to be a bit pricey, faux suede is just as luxurious without the price tag, and it looks and feels like the real thing. Personally, I love faux suede, and when I found this cognac faux suede skirt from Shop Skirted Fancy, I fell in love.
Instead of showing you five outfits that I created with this skirt, which I love to do, I opted to show you three ways in which you can added personality and depth to this amazing skirt, and any suede skirt you have.

1.Neutral top with an eye-catching accessory. This option is easy to dress up for work or to dress down for a Saturday out running errands. Here’s how it works: take a plain neutral blouse in something like a white blouse for work or a gray t-shirt for a casual look. Add a jacket as a completer piece, in a neutral of course. Something complimentary to what you are already working with. Then add an accessory with a pop of color, like shoes or a scarf.
I chose to go comfortable and casual with this outfit by pairing an oatmeal sweater under a gray faux leather jacket and adding a touch of color with red velvet flats.

2.Match the shoes to the skirt. This is particularly wise when you’re wearing boots. This also works with flats. By matching the hues of your skirt and shoes, creates a longer leg line and makes you look taller. Your tops should keep your outfit cohesive. If your outfit is for work for a party, wear something dressy like chiffon. If it’s casual, a cotton blouse or shirt is perfect.
I matched my boots as best I could with my skirt, but the concept is the same. Brown suede, brown boots; instant vertical lines. I added a touch of color with a burgundy lace yoke blouse and a plaid scarf.

3.Lady like details. Details make an outfit. You can add feminine details such as tailored cuts, embroidery, flared sleeves, frilly sleeves, lace, beading, sequins, shimmer, etc… to your blouses, shoes, and accessories.
The lady like details in this blouse are found on the beaded neckline on the blouse, the ruched sides on the blouse, which pulls focus on the natural waistline, the shimmer of the faux pearl beading on the scarf, and the textural impression of the black suede booties.

4.Mix and Match Textures. Mixing textures is a great way to create visual interest, break up monochromatic pieces, and showcase your personality. Adding a leather jacket over a white blouse is a great way to dress down an outfit for running errands. To dress up the same outfit, add some embellishment through your shoes, a clutch, or jewelry.
This outfit is all about subtle details that add just a bit of panache. The blouse is chiffon and embellished with brushstrokes of gold, the shoes are a champagne hue with silver spikes, and the clutch purse is a sort of faux leather.

5.Sweaters and Fur. Leather and suede are complementary to each other and create a chic cohesive look. If you want something that is a bit more casual, go for a chunky knit over sized sweater, especially if your proportions allow for it. Even if your proportions don’t allow for a chunky knit sweater, you can achieve the same look with a light weight cable knit or a waffle knit sweater. Even a light weight knit sweater creates a more casual vibe. Another way to create casual vibes is with a faux fur vest. It’s still glam and great for a night out, but casual enough to wear during the day.
It's all about casual glam. A winterberry pink graphic sweater layered under a gray faux fur vest and gray boots is divine, add a blanket scarf when stepping out and you will be the essence of comfortable chic.
