Staying Cool, Staying Modest

It is quite clear that Spring is upon us. Here in Idaho, spring is marked by various extreme weather shifts: 80 degrees for two days, drops to 60 degrees the next, pops up to 70 degrees, drops down again, and then right back up to 80 degrees. These last couple of days we have experienced several days of consistent 80 degrees. With Spring in full swing and Summer well on its way, how does one keep cool and stay modest?

I've developed a little motto: Keep it light, Keep it bright.

Fall and Winter are dominated by rich, deep, dark colors. The colors of warmth and the illusion of death and mourning. Spring and Summer are a chance to break free and celebrate new life.

Keep it light:
1. Keep your color palate, light. Pastels and cool tones are in right now. Replace your dark purple with lavender, and your holly berry red with blush pink.

2. Keep the fabric light. Thicker knits are great to keep the warmth in during Winter months. Embrace your linens and cottons. Embrace khaki.

3. Keep your layers light. Summer time seems to be dominated by tank tops, one shoulder, and sleeveless shirts. For some these tops are considered immodest. Layering in summer can be done and can be refreshing. Layer your modest tops with a light t-shirt or a lightweight cardigan over it.

Keep it bright:

1. Summer Tones: The summer palate this year is all about teals, melons, island inspirations, and sunset reds. These are bright, festive, and warm tones.

2. Keep it exciting: Embrace festive prints, and unique accessories.

3. Be Fruity: Fruit prints are all the rage now. I have encountered many shirts embossed with lemons and pineapples. Even accessories are bearing similar images.

Hopefully this will help and inspire you to keep cool and to keep modest.
