5 Ways to Wear Neon

Neon has been an increasingly popular shade for Spring and Summer. Yet, wearing neon without looking like a pack of hi-liters from Office Depot can be a bit tricky. Wearing these fresh, vibrant colors does not have to be as intimidating as they look. Below are five ways you can wear neon and look fabulous too.

1. Keep It Simple.
While it may seem like they only way to go, don't go wearing neon head to toe. Neon colors act as a focal point that draws the eye into that color. If you are just starting off with neon, go for accessories like shoes, a clutch or cross body purse, even a headband or head wrap. These are easy and simple ways to add a splash of color to your outfit.

Now, if you are feeling a bit bold, try wearing a neon top or a neon skirt. Just keep it to one area of your body.

2. Go Neutral.
Neutral tops and bottoms like gray, khaki, navy, and white will mute the neon colors while allowing neon to still stand out. In some cases you can wear camel and lighter shades of lilac with neon. However, when in doubt, wear black.

3. Denim or Chambray.
Pairing neon with denim or chambray is a great way to tone down the intensity of your color choice, while creating a fabulous springy and beach- going look.

4. What Looks Best
Keep your neon color choices as close to your color season as possible. If your hair and skin tone normally looks great with yellow and orange, then their neon counter parts are going to look wonderful on you. If you are best suited for green, then neon greens will look good on you. If you look best in blues and berries, then you might try colors like Cobalt and Fuchsia.

5. One Do and One Don't
Color blocking and pattern mixing have been trending for the past couple of seasons. While with traditional colors this is fine, with neon there are some definite dos and don'ts.
First of all: Don't Pattern Mix with neon colors! While wearing one pattern in a neon is fine, that is where it needs to remain. Combining a print with neon is enough of an eye catcher. Pairing a neon print with another neon print or even a neutral print will create wardrobe chaos and make you look like a two year old's doodling than the work of art you are.

You should, if you feel brave try some color blocking. While dressing head to toe in neon is not recommended, color blocking neon is a great way to add pizzazz to your outfit. Just remember to color block with complimentary colors. The same rules for color blocking apply to neon as they do with traditional colors.

My advice is to pick one of these rules and give it a try. Keep on trying. Keep trying until you find what looks best on you, works well with your lifestyle, and suits your personality. Most of all just have fun with it. Neon is a fabulous color shade and can be worn without making you look like a hi-liter.
